My sincere condolences to Russell Johnson's family.

I have always been a fan of Mr. Johnson's and enjoyed his work very much. I grew up watching Gilligan's Island and still enjoy seeing the reruns today. His character was a favorite of mine. I also loved his performances in his two Twilight Zone episodes and other films. Thanks for your military service to this country and for your hard work in the entertainment field. You touched many lives.

Rest in Peace Mr. Johnson.

Connie, I'm sorry I forgot to sign the Guest Book up there yesterday. I just made a B line for ya when I saw you & forgot to go back & sign. Russ it was a GREAT showing as you know, looking down on us all in that cozy little lodge in weather only a Hollywood script writer would have for such an event. Spirits would not be dampened however. Inside it was like you, warm & comfortable with some good laughs & an easy going atmosphere along with great music as background! I have attended many somber occasions but nowhere has Taps ever pulled so hard on my heart. That final takeoff into the sunset is one we all must make one day & your graceful departure, written & done in true Russell Johnson fashion was perfect! Our day of celebration yesterday was like a low approach- Your friends all got to see & hear a little bit of Russell one more time. I will continue to hear Frank Buxton's words "The Professor has left the island…" until our rejoin on the other side. Eyes to the sky- I salute you sir! Your brother in aviation, Doug

Condolences to the the Family of Russell Johnson. My whole family grew up on Gilligan's Island. I have watched him in other roles as well, but to us his character on Gilligan's Island was like a close friend to us all. That show was like a family to myself and to millions of us around the world. I can tell you that all those actors in that show are all in our hearts. You guys set the bar with your class and grace. Thank you so much Russell.

I have had the privilege of having Russell as a patient for the past twenty years, and he has become a great friend to me and staff. When reflecting on my time with Russell, am reminded of his humility and grace. A man who was always patient and appreciative with the most star-crazed fans, he continued to be engaged and endlessly optimistic even when his health was failing him. I will certainly always reflect on our good conversations and his great stories, and appreciate the time we shared together.

I was very sad to read about the passing of Mr. Johnson. I was very much a child of the 70s, raised on reruns from the previous decade, and one that I always gravitated towards as a kid was Gilligan's Island. When I went to college, I studied theater, and when I left I did what most theater majors do…work a lousy job while trying to land a part. I did a few plays here and there, and eventually I was cast as the Professor in a musical adaptation of Gilligan’s Island (I had more hair then).

Later, when I got into writing comic books and self-published my first series, I named one of the characters (a talking scientist monkey) Russell Hinkley, after both the actor who played the Professor and that character’s real name (Roy Hinkley).

I had the chance to meet Mr. Johnson a couple years later at a convention and when I mentioned both the musical and the monkey to him, he thought it was hilarious. I’ve read articles where Mr. Johnson admitted to feeling the role of the Professor had hurt his career, but the person before me had no bitterness, no anger about it; he was just happy to still be recognized and thought of, fondly, nearly forty years after the show had concluded. I don’t normally do the autograph thing but I did here, and he signed a picture of his Gilligan character “From One Professor to Another.” It may have been his standard signature, I don’t know…all I know is that I still have that hanging on the wall of my house.

Rest in Peace, Russell Johnson. My condolences to his family and friends.

While I didn't know Russell, I loved Gilligan's Island, and The Professor was one of my favorite characters on the show. My condolences go out to his family and friends. You all have a new angel watching over you, as cliched as it sounds. R.I.P. Russell, you will be missed.

Dear Mrs. Johnson and family,
I first met your husband six years ago, when I relocated to the Island from Indianapolis. The first job I could find was working at Paws and Fins pet shop, where I had the amazing privilege and fortune of helping Mr. Johnson select various things for his beloved dog.
I respected his privacy and never ever let on that I knew who he was and that I was absolutely thrilled to meet and help 'The Professor.' He so loved his dog and it showed.
I will never forget the quick pep in his step, that thick shock of wavy, white hair, the ready offer of a handshake, the harmlessly flirty twinkle in his eye, that big, warm, infectious smile, and his soft, rich, kindness-tinged voice, every time I worked with him or saw him from afar approach or be approached by anyone, anywhere on the Island. It didn't matter what your station/situation in life, he treated everyone like a million dollars and that spoke volumes about the kind of person he was.
Class and caring, that is what makes a role model and is exactly what your husband, father, family member, and friend embodied. Take heart in the knowledge that people of such rare and wonderful quality are missed by many and never forgotten.
I am not working at the pet store any more, but please consider coming by Julie's Frame Gallery, so I can help design a nice memory for you. I would be honored.
With Deep Sympathy,

Mr. Johnson, thank you for your talent in your art. You were a part of my childhood and I hold great memories of the many hours spent watching you on TV. Those of us who watched you, swooned over your good looks, but more importantly, your intellect in your roll as The Professor. You were the first to make science cool. Godspeed in your journey and thank you for making Bainbridge Island your home for the twilight years of your life. You were a humble and honorable man. All our thoughts to your family and loved ones.

I used to wait on Mr. Johnson when I worked on the island, it was a pleasure to meet him. Watching him on tv growing up I used to believe it was so real that he was stranded that everytime they would get close to a rescue I would get so upset and think why did that have to happen, now they can't go home. May he rest in peace on his "new" forever Island!!!!!

Connie and Kim... I will never forget Russell for the rest of my days. I can't tell you how much I enjoyed my many emails and phone calls with Russ and yourself, Connie! You and Russell were so kind to me when I had my cancer surgery in 2006 sending me the most delightful musical get well card! I have all the memorabilia that Russ sent me and will cherish it forever. Although our friendship was not based on being a fan, rather than two people from northeastern PA and I know how much Russ cared for his beloved Ashley, PA. I always wished we met, but due to his health issues, he never got back to PA. I'll regret that, I already do.

Thanks for everything, my heart is broken.

My sincere condolences to your family in Russell's passing. Russell's dad and my dad's father (my grandfather) were brothers, growing up in Ashley Pa. There is only one aunt remaining in the Edgar Johnson family. She is 89 as well.
Whenever I see a photo of Russell I see my dad, they looked so much alike. We all loved watching Gilligans Island and especially the reunion episode. My prayer is that you find comfort in knowing how many lives your dad touched.
God bless

On October 15th 2006 I dispatched on a telephone repair for a Russell Johnson. I could barely contain my excitement!. Could it be "the professor" I pulled into the driveway and saw an ss minnow lifering on the garage.I got to meet my hero!! I wish I would have let Mr Johnson know how much he inspired me. It may sound crazy, But I believe His character in a round about way steered my career in a very positive way. He was a great man and will be missed.Rest in peace. Tim Hinderer. Silverdale wa

I never met Mr. Johnson, but I have adored him since childhood. He brought so much joy and entertainment to people's lives. My foundest memories are watching Gilligan's Island growing up. I always wished I had a professor in my life to help me in situations. I read about his voluntary work with aids which shows me that he was more that an entertainer, he was a true humanitarian. Although I am not kin to Mr. Johnson or even knew him, I feel as though I have lost a family member. My prayers are with his family. Rest In Peace.

As an only child I grew up watching many different television shows. Russell was one of those people in my life and always seemed like a really good guy, Like someone you could just hangout with and talk to. He always seemed to have a demeanor about him that reminded me of my Uncle as well as my Dad at times. Funny how Some actors effect you in different ways, I feel like a member of my family has passed. Thanks for the memories Russell, Rest in Peace.....

My mother was married to his brother Ken for several years. I remember talking to "Uncle Russ" on the telephone once, and as a teenager, it was the "coolest thing ever". He was so sweet and kind, knowing I was starstruck just by the thought of who he was. Now as a mature adult, I can appreciate all the positive and charitable influences that Mr. Johnson shared. The world has lost a good man, humble and generous in so many ways. Get that giant stage ready in heaven, the angels gained a real star.
