Never meet Grady, nor his wife Dana; only got to know them a bit after his passing with the purchase of their lovely home which they had owned for decades; and it is indeed "lovely". My husband & I fell in love with it immediately. The calm, gracious, thoughtful humanity is palpable upon entering. Having a similar affinity for architecture, art, bamboo and the tranquility of Asian architecture we felt as if we were indeed coming home and, although we regret not personally knowing these two remarkable community-minded people, we feel that in some small way we are getting to know the essence of them in the home they created and can only hope to honor that legacy.

Grady will be sorely missed by so many. He was one of the first lovely people I met on the island. Worked with him for that first year and enjoyed his dreamwork immensely. He was a wonderful, gentle soul. So happy to see that he led such a wonderful, fulfilling life. The island lost a great human being, full of love and warmth for the many lives he touched. His legacy will move on with many lives I touch as a result of having known him.

Dana, Damon, Shane - I'm so sorry for your loss. The last time I spoke to Grady was back in 2005 I think, I was on a bike ride around the island, was passing by your Crystal Springs house and there he was working in the front yard. I hadn't see him in years and it was the first conversation I had with him as an adult, so I was seeing him now in a different context (if that makes sense). He seemed really happy and was excited that Damon was getting married soon. He invited me over a month later I think and it was great to see you all again and meet Damon's future wife. I'm really sad he's gone - he looks so young in his picture but he truly led a full life and had a great family.

Grady, you have always been a gentle, intelligent and caring person. You are remembered and admired. The Class of '63 was the best. Thank you being a great friend for me a BHS.

Dear Dana,
I'm sure you don't remember me, because this goes back to 1987, but I remember you as a wonderful school counselor to my daughter Cassie. Grady helped me and Cassie in a transitional time for both of us, and we are still grateful for the work you and he did with us.
One of the best phrases that Grady had, after I would spill out a story of woe, "So what's GOOD about this?" I still carry that phrase with me, after all these years.
My best wishes for you and your family. Remember the GOOD.
