CJ was a great colleague and enjoyable for the spirit and enthusiasm brought to the office team. Eager to help on clients, and always up for an extended discussion on the Hawks or Mariners, or a team outing to a game or elsewhere.

It's never easy to say goodbye and especially for such a young man with a gracious heart. CJ you will be missed.

CJ, you were a gift to us all. To be in your presence and feel your warmth, your unique charisma and deep compassion for others brought unwavering joy. Your laughter, healthy curiosity, and dependable swag casts a warm light on my younger years. A light that will stay with me as I go on to live a journey worthy of your memory. You were loved deeply by your island, a community where your legacy will never dim. Rest in peace, dear friend. All my love Laura, Phil and Theresa.

Theresa and family:

I was shocked and saddened to learn last week of CJ's passing. I have very fond memories of working with and getting to know CJ during our time together at the FHLB. He was always pleasant and up-beat, a real pleasure to be around. I know I can't fathom the sense of loss you are feeling at this time but hope, with the passage of time, you will be comforted by fond memories of your time with your wonderful son. Please accept my heartfelt condolences.

Dear Phil, Theresa and Laura,

I always enjoyed spending time with C.J. whenever I came up to Seattle to visit Aaron and Hayley. I saw C.J. and Aaron this past May when I visited and we went out for a dim sum lunch in the International District and we had fun catching up.
C.J. was a very good friend of Aaron and Hayley's and they enjoyed each others company immensely.
I know that Aaron, Hayley and I will miss him deeply and we cherish the time and memories we have of being all together.
C.J. was a loving caring soul and always treated me with kindness and respect.
He will always be remembered in my heart. I am sorry that I could not attend the memorial service on 09/23/17 but I will be making a donation for the Romanian orphanage through East West outreach in C.J.'s name. I am so sorry for your loss. C.J. was such a wonderful person and I am pleased that I got to know him since he was a freshman in college.

Dear Hall family,
I am sorry for your loss.
I knew CJ through our sustainable work practices group at work. I appreciated his high energy and sense of humor. And he always had a smile on his face, and a friendly greeting for those he met.
Sincerely,

To my Seattle Hall Family
I am incredibly saddened by CJ's passing. It was such a pleasure to get to know CJ as an adult and I am so grateful for that. He was a bright, intelligent, compassionate young man and will be terribly missed.

From "The Little Prince"

People have stars, but they aren't the same. For travelers, the stars are guides. For other people, they're nothing but tiny lights. And for still others, for scholars, they're problems. For my businessman, they were gold. But all those stars are silent stars. You, though, you'll have stars like nobody else."
"What do you mean?"
"When you look up at the sky at night, since I'll be living on one of them, since I'll be laughing on one of them, for you, it'll be as if all the stars are laughing. You'll have stars that can laugh!"
And he laughed again.
"And when you're consoled (everyone is eventually consoled), you'll be glad you've known me. You'll always be my friend. You'll feel like laughing with me. And you'll open your windows sometimes just for the fun of it... And your friends will be amazed to see you laughing while you're looking up at the sky. Then you'll tell them, 'Yes, it's the stars. They always make me laugh!"

I am honored to have known you and will keep laughing with you in the stars!

Friends and Family of CJ,

I am deeply saddened by the sudden loss of a young man whom I grew to love and admire deeply over the last few years. I had been thinking to re-connect with him just a short time before I learned that he was no longer with us. I regret that I did not seize that moment to call him. I loved his energetic and creative spirit. We talked many times about the challenges of being human and trying to grow up in a world where just being human can be very difficult.

His sudden passing is a reminder to me to seize each moment when there is a chance to connect with and appreciate one another. We are all dangling by the slimmest of threads to this life. I miss him already.

Somehow, against all odds, may each one who loved him find peace and healing in the days to come.

With you in spirit,

David Hager

CJ was one of our daughter, Kaitlyn's, best friends, but we all got to know him fairly well over the years, as he'd come by and hang out in our kitchen, first when he and Kait were at BHS, and later, when Kait was home for the holidays from LA. We followed his progress through college and beyond, and were so happy to hear of his successes, including post grad exams, a great job, and being the first of his peers to buy his own home. CJ was a genuine, gentle, and sensitive person, who was always welcome in our home. He will always hold a special place in our hearts.

Dear Teresa, all of your loving friends at FHLB Seattle are deeply heartbroken to learn of CJ's passing. We want you to know how much we love you, and walk beside you in spirit as you travel the journey of grieving the loss of your beautiful son. For CJ's loving family and friends, please find comfort in Leonard Cohen's words: "Come my friend, be not afraid. We are so lightly here. It is in love we are made. In love we disappear." Deepest blessings to you, my friend. Love, Cecelia Kelly

CJ was one of my sister's best friends growing up on Bainbridge but he meant a lot to me as well. He was always there for her when she needed him. He was a selfless, compassionate, extremely kind and hard working person. Always cracking jokes and laughing, he was so positive despite anything life was throwing at him. One of my favorite qualities about CJ was his incredible ability to be truly present when he was with you - he was such a good listener and always engaged in conversation with curiosity and care. When I lived on Capitol Hill for a time a few blocks from him, I loved how we'd randomly bump into each other unexpectedly and take turns giving one another the DL on life and family. I'll miss his beaming smile and bear hugs immensely. CJ was a rare and wonderful human being - he left an imprint on everyone he met - and while the world was a much better place with him in it, it's also a better place now because he was in it. I'm so grateful for the times we shared and the memories I can now carry with me. My deepest sympathy to his family and loved ones.
