Dear Kevin and Family,
I truly believe that Mr. Playter was one of the kindest people I knew. Honestly, I would have been in trouble more times than not if he wasn't the one that "caught" me up to something I shoudn't have been. My heart goes out you and your family. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.

I worked with Bill for many years and really liked him. He always had a smile and a happy disposition to share. I met him when I started my career at Bainbridge PD in 1991, and of course knew that Bill and his family lived on the island. He would stop in to see us and he always brightened my day.
I didn't have as many chances to visit with him after starting work at KCSO in 1997, but I heard him on the air, saw him in the office a few times, and his sunny disposition always remained.
Thank you Bill for being an early, positive influence on my law enforcement career and for being a terrific person. May you rest in peace. Peace to the Playter family as well.

Oh, Billy. We knew each other for 40+ years - from my preteen days when I babysat your three kids, to our shared career in law enforcement. Favorite memory? When you were with WPD, you used to jot down the bare facts of your reports on any handy piece of paper, hand it in to me with a big FIX IT across the top. I would then type in all of the necessary words to make an acceptable report. I miss those days! Love you, will miss you.

Ruth, Kim, Kevin and Ken: I treasure the memories of our times together as the "Lynwood Center Gang". As kids we enjoyed the freedom of youth in those days but were fortunate to have the watching eyes and caring intentions of various parents around us. Your Dad was definately one of them. I have fond memories of the moments when he took the time out to play with us, scold us, or make us laugh. (He even convince a nine year old boy that things were not so bad that he needed to run away from home, long funny story) I hope during the celebration of his life today that you laugh a little more than you cry. Your Dad would want it that way.
Warmest wishes from the Van Niman Family

I really enjoyed working with Bill. I was with Poulsbo Fire for many years and enjoyed my friendship with him very much. I will remember his smile and chuckle for years to come. Peace be with your family.

Playter family
Our heartfelt condolensces on the loss of Bill. Whenever his name would come up in conversation I would always think of his smile and sense of humor and that is how I will remember him. Mom was one of his biggest fans - she always loved running into him somewhere and catching up on a laugh or two.
You are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

I am Bill's oldest grand child chelise and just want to say my grandpa was one of the most important people in my life the glue that held us all together. Losing him has been devestating and I will never go a day without him in my thoughts and will forever be in my heart. I will miss the way he would tease us as much as it drove us crazy it certainly was his charm I miss his smile and the way he loved us. When i was young we would walk to get the mail and I picked up "pretty" rocks for him which were just rocks on the road he put them in a coffee can and they are still in his garage today. I Love You Grandpa and wish you were here Love Always Chelisie Marie

So sorry to see Bill's passing. Working with him in Winslow and then again in Poulsbo was so much fun. The teasing and laughs were always the highlights of working there. I named him "Save a buck Bill" when as a new Sergeant he ordered uniform pants that were paper thin. We both laughed about that for years. Rest well my friend. We will see each other again ! Matthew

Uncle Bill was always so funny. So quick and clever. He made me laugh and on the occasions we got together, I always left wanting some more of Uncle Bill. I still want that. And I want some more of Dad and Aunt Carol too. What a year for the Playters but perhaps we can find some comfort that Bill, Dad, Carol, and David are all together. I am so sorry. I know that the pain is unbearable. Lean on each other. Take care of each other. And try and find your way back to happiness. It is what Uncle Bill wants for you because he loves you so.
Love, Karen

Dear Playter Family, I had the honor of working with Bill during my time at Cen Com and the Bremerton-Kitsap DUI Task Force. Bill was a wonderful man, so kind and caring, honest and sincere. He always had a smile and a kind word for everyone, and he was so proud of all of the young officers who worked for him. The law enforcement community has lost a teacher, a dear friend and a leader. I am so sorry for your lost, Bill was a wonderful man~hold onto your good memories.
Take care, Lynn Drake
