Cook Family Funeral Home has announced a new offering for their client families in a time of need. Embracing the need for more Eco-Friendly products at the time of a death, the funeral home now offers Eco-Caskets that are made from Seagrass, Willow, or Bamboo. The caskets are handcrafted by skilled weavers and are suitable for viewings and services followed by green burial or clean cremation.

The purchase of these caskets has created a cottage industry that provides badly needed seasonal income for families in rural communities. Both willow and seagrass plants are fast growing, easy to harvest and require no fertilizers. They replenish fertility in depleted soils, in addition to providing habitats for birds and insects. They also act as windbreaks, stabilize soil and combat both river and coastal erosion.

David J. Cook, owner and funeral director says, "These new options provide our communities with a "green" selection of caskets which are being used for both green burial and clean cremations. We also now offer biodegradable-water and biodegradable-earth urns. We want to provide all options to our families and this is another way we are embracing the change that is taking place in the American way of death".

Journey Earthurn® The Journey Earthurn Collection is perfect for ocean or deep water burial. These eco-friendly and  biodegradable urns are engineered to float momentarily and then gracefully sink. Once on the ocean floor, they will break down naturally over time. Available in four attractive colors with matching keepsakes.

Unity Earthurn® The beautiful heart shape of the Unity Earthurn provides a soft and warm feel to an urn. The urn is designed for ground burial. Once buried it will degrade naturally over time. Available in three designs with matching keepsakes.

Reflect Earthurn® A beautiful satin bag and matching picture frame (that will hold a 2"w x 3"h photo) surround a simple, yet elegant biodegradable urn. The urn can be personalized by writing, drawing or painting on the simple white urn. The Reflect Earthurn is designed for ground burial. Once buried it will degrade naturally overtime. The interior container is also suitable to scatter from. The silk bag may be kept to store personal mementos such as wristwatches, spectacles or letters  once the urn has been used for scattering or been buried.

Purity Earthurn® This oval urn has violet and yellow flower petals in-laid in the paper and is suitable for scattering or biodegradable burial. Once buried the Purity Earthurn will degrade naturally over time.

Chest Earthurn® - Navy Blue The unique design of this urn showcases two custom features. Firstly, the top of the urn is adorned with handmade paper flowers which are painstakingly attached one at a time. The second is the chest opening and closing mechanism which includes a functional and attractive clasp to securely close the urn. Available in two sizes.

Earthurn Memory Chest Inserts The environmentally-friendly and biodegradable Earthurn Memory Chest Inserts are designed to fit into most Memory Chest Urns (Chest sold separately). Please make note of the dimensions of the insert that comes with your Memory Chest Urns for proper fit of the Earthurn Memory Chest Insert. Each insert is suitable for biodegradable burial, opens easily for scattering, or can be kept as a beautiful interior container for the chest.

Deep Water Bio Urns

The Shell™ Series, Biodegradable Urn The Shell Deep Water Bio Urn is designed to provide families with a clearly themed urn that will float momentarily before sinking and degrading naturally. Each Shell is handmade from recycled paper and painted by an artist. The product includes convenient protective packaging that has been custom designed for safe and discreet transportation. The packaging can be recycled once the services have taken place. Passages International, Inc donates a portion of the proceeds from each Shell sold to the Ocean Conservancy on behalf of the deceased. The next of kin receive notification via mail that a donation has been made on behalf of their loved one.
