Alice Theresa Stahl

d. August 23, 2011

passed away peacefully in her sleep, August 23, 2011. She was eagerly anticipating a reunion with her husband, Kenneth Stahl, in heaven. She was born February 9, 1922 to George and Madeline Ross in Portland, Maine. Deering High School in Portland, Maine was where she and Ken Stahl became high school sweethearts. She attended secretarial school in Portland where she learned skills to stay employed wherever she lived. The war separated them temporarily. In spite of gas rationing and with tires on their last tread, they managed to get married on Camp Polk, Louisiana, May 23, 1942 attended by her sister, Dorothea Kennedy and her husband, James. Adventure was a word Alice never feared, following her husband during the war whenever she could live with him or awaiting his return from overseas. After the war, they settled in Maine where they started their family.Surviving her death are her sisters, Eleanor McPhee and Dorothea Kennedy of Maine and daughters, Judy O'Hare of Bainbridge Island, Wa and Joanne Chase of Newport, New Hampshire. In their retirement, the Stahls settled at Lakeland Village in Allyn, Wa. Because they lived on a golf course, it was said that they'd died and gone to heaven already. This last move allowed them to watch their grandchildren, Shannon Homewood of Silverdale and Kenneth O'Hare of Bainbridge Island grow up and start their own families. By her request, there will be no memorial service. Her last words were not to cry. She'd lived a good life and had a wonderful husband.
