Carlton Cornell Anderson

October 17, 1925 — April 3, 2022

Carlton Cornell Anderson, age 96, passed away on Sunday morning, April 3, 2022, at Fieldstone Memory Care, Bainbridge Island, Washington. He was born on October 17, 1925, in Bridgeport, Connecticut to Oscar and Marie Anderson and was baptized on April 18, 1926, at Salem Lutheran Church. After a two-year interruption (June 1944 - June 1946) while serving in the U.S. Navy as an aviation electronics technician and with the help of the GI Bill, Carlton finished his formal education and graduated in January 1948 from Northeastern University, Boston, Massachusetts with honors in Mechanical Engineering. He went on to work for two oil companies: Standard Vacuum Oil Company (7 years) and Phillips Petroleum Company (33 years) on various projects in China, India, Pakistan, Oklahoma, Egypt, and Norway. Music was a predominant part of his life. On Saturday afternoons in Oklahoma radio broadcasts of the Metropolitan Opera from New York City could often be heard blaring from the garage while he tinkered on his MG. He sang in the Navy Base Choir and the Stavanger (Norway) Symphony Choir. After retiring to Bainbridge Island in 1989 he enjoyed both the Seattle Opera, Seattle Symphony and sang in the Seattle Symphony Chorale. But his rich bass voice could best be heard in church wherever he lived. Well into his 90’s he was still singing in the choir at Bethany Lutheran Church, Bainbridge Island where he was a faithful member. Sailing was his other passion and he was especially proud of ‘Windsong’ - a 35-foot wooden sailboat he designed and which was built by his son Curtiss. He had a keen interest in and strong viewpoints on many local, national, and world issues and could be found most Thursday mornings at the ‘Oatmeal Club’ meetings here on Bainbridge Island. Carlton was predeceased by his beloved wife Grace of 64 years, brothers ‘Deac’ and Danny, and sister Audrey. He is survived by four children: Paula (Rev. Timothy Teuscher) living in Canada, Nathan (Patricia) living in Kansas, Curtiss (Randi) living in Norway, and Kenneth (Kari) living in Norway. He also leaves behind 10 grandchildren and 6 (great-grandchildren); Joshua (Roman), Amanda, Jennifer (Isaac and Chloe), and Kimberly; Sarah and Jesse; Andreas (Axel and Storm) and Martha (Ingeborg); and Thomas and Benjamin. The family would especially like to thank Blain Crandell MD of Member Plus Family Health, Ariana Alexander-Davock of Alder Aging Support, ARTiCARE In-Home Care Services, Fieldstone Memory Care, and Pastor Paul and members of Bethany Lutheran Church for their dedicated and devoted care and support shown to our Dad. We are so very grateful and blessed by all of your many acts of kindness carried out with the greatest degree of love, dignity, and compassion. A Memorial Service will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church, 7698 Finch Road NE, Bainbridge Island on April 20, 2022, at 6 PM.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Cook Family Funeral Home of Bainbridge Island.
