53, beloved husband of Karen Coffyn, devoted father to Molly Grace Coffyn, Kelly Anna Coffyn and Lacey Elizabeth Coffyn of Bainbridge Island, Washington (formerly of Larkspur and San Diego, CA) died unexpectantly on July 11, 2007. He was born March 4, 1954 to Charles "Buddy" and Marijane Coffyn of Dobbs Ferry, New York and was a descendent of the Tristam Coffyn (aka Coffin) pilgrims of Nantucket, Massachusetts and the Huston-Shaefer family of Pennsylvania.Chip received his nickname when he appeared as the infant child of the characters Harvey and Marge Weskit on the 1950's television comedy "Mr. Peepers". He graduated from Archbishop Stepinac High School in White Plains, N.Y. and received a teaching degree with honors from Niagara University. Awarded a music scholarship in Morristown, N.J. which roistered talented musicians. Chip excelled in classical/jazz percussion, contributing to several music recordings and engagements in Westchester County. The Cardinal Spellman Humanitarian Award was presented to him at St. Patrick's Cathedral, as the CYO Youth of the Year.Prior to settling on Bainbridge Island in the Manzanita neighborhood, he lived in San Diego and the San Francisco Bay area where he owned Banyon Transport Systems in Sausalito. He was with the McGilvray Group, architectural stone restoration and received many home show awards with accolades fro projects located tin the Bay area up to Sacramento. Purchasing/reopening California's Brownstone Quarry which prior to its closure in the late 1800's had furnished all the Bay area's brownstone material was noted as a historical moment.Additionally, in keeping with his family's long history in aviation, he was instrumental in readying the Adirondack Hotel on Long Lake, N.Y. for the first Adirondack Seaplane Association Landing.He is also survived by brother Clifford Coffyn; sister C. Jane Conway; and his mother Marijane Coffyn of Willis Gilderport, Boynton Beach, FL.In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made to the memorial find "The Charles Chip Coffyn Family Fund" which has been set up for his three daughters at the Washington Mutual Bank, 231 Winslow Way East, Bainbridge Island, Washington 98110. Funeral services were held at St. Cecilia Catholic Church on Bainbridge Island. Inurnment will be private.Arrangements entrusted to Cook Family Funeral Home.
