passed away on Monday, March 12, 2012 at Madison Avenue Retirement on Bainbridge Island, Washington. She was born on November 9, 1926 and was 85 years of age.Sue led a glamorous youth before her recent days with a cane and walker! (Her own words.) Graduating from Finch Jr. College in NYC, she worked for Mademoiselle Magazine, then went home to Canton, Ohio, where she wrote articles for the local newspaper. She married her first love, Don, who left Yale to become one of the youngest B-17 pilots before he returned to graduate and become a headmaster for 31 years. They were married 51 years mostly living in Southern California and summering at their place in Ontario on the Muskoka Lakes in Canada.A widow for 13 years, Sue has 3 daughters, Mil, a sociologist and social policy analyst in New Hampshire, Laurie, a farmer and Labrador breeder in Mass, and Julie, a school administrator, who lives in Indianola and works nearby on Bainbridge Island at Madrona School. Sue raised Golden Retrievers and West Highland terriers, and worked with her husband in the Development office of Chadwick School. There are six grandchildren and four great grand children. Sue was an avid reader and will best be remembered for her wit and warmth.A family memorial will be held this summer in Santa Ynez, CA where Sue will be interred next to her husband Don.In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations of any size in Sue's name, to Madrona School, which held a special place in her heart for the past several years.
