"Ed" 92, died March 19, 2018, at Wyatt House, Bainbridge Island, Washington. He was born February 19, 1926, in Logan, Kansas.Ed served as a Navy radio operator in the Philippines during World War II. He received his bachelor's degree from Western Washington University and his master's degree in Public School Administration from Seattle University.A Bainbridge Island resident for almost 70 years, Ed and his wife, Iris, were both educators in the Bainbridge Island school district. Ed first taught elementary school at Lincoln School in Winslow, then moved in 1955 to teach 5th grade at Wilkes Elementary School, after which he became the school's first principal. He served as principal for 22 years until his retirement in June of 1979. Ed also served as president of Kitsap Education Association. He is remembered fondly by many Bainbridge students and he enjoyed attending many class reunions through the years.During his retirement, Ed continued his passion for educating when the Kings spent four months in China teaching English, one of the highlights of his career. Other retirement activities included traveling, golf, running, and wintering in Arizona.Ed and Iris were also long-time members of Rolling Bay Presbyterian Church, where he had served as a deacon and treasurer. Additionally, he had belonged to the Kiwanis Club, at one time serving as the Club's president.Ed is predeceased by his sisters, Mary and Carol. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Iris (Bowden) King, children Carol (Barbara), Peter (Lynn) and Molly Glad (John), six grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and a sister Lee Fah.A service of remembrance will be held April 7, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at Rolling Bay Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to Bainbridge Schools Foundation (www.bainbridgeschoolsfoundation.org). Indicating "in honor of Ed King" will ensure contributions will go to Wilkes Elementary School. Arrangements are entrusted to Cook Family Funeral Home.
