Eduardo Ustaris Velasquez

Master Chief Petty Officer, MMCM (SS), USN, Retired, Eduardo "Ed" Velasquez, 80, of Bainbridge Island, Washington, passed away at Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton on August 23, 2018.

Ed was born on May 19, 1938, in Calamba, Philippines to Felipe and Dolores Velasquez. The oldest of 12 children, he enlisted in the United States Navy in 1960. His service to his country included stations on the submarines USS Barbel (SS-580), USS Wahoo (SS 565), USS Blackfin (SS-322), and on the DSRV-1, Mystic. He retired from the Navy in 1982 and continued his civil service career at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton until his final retirement in 2005.

He married his wife, Carmen Velasquez, on July 9, 1963, and together their careers took their family to places including Connecticut, Hawaii, Morocco, California, and Washington. He is survived by his wife, Carmen, and his 3 children: Philip Velasquez (Patricia), Michelle Barbo (Robert), and Nina Velasquez, and grandchildren: Alina, Emily, Jack, and Sela.

Services will take place at St. Cecilia Parish on Bainbridge Island, Washington. A Rosary is scheduled for the evening of September 14, 2018. The funeral Mass will take place on September 15, 2018, at 11am. A reception will follow at St. Cecilia, Conger Hall. He will be laid to rest with full military honors at Tahoma National Cemetery on September 18, 2018 in Kent, Washington.

Remembrances on Ed's behalf can be made to the US Naval Undersea Museum in Keyport, Washington.
