Harold Graydon Gray

passed away on Monday, August 28, 2017 at his residence on Bainbridge Island, Washington. He was born on March 17, 1945 and was 72 years of age. Arrangements are pending through Cook Family Funeral Home.known as Grady to everyone, passed from this life on August 28, 2017 at his lovely home on Bainbridge Island. He succumbed to pancreatic cancer after a four-month wrangle. He was 72.Born in Bell, California on March 17, 1945, Grady was a Saint Patrick's Day baby weighing in at just over 3 pounds. He survived whooping cough in his early months. His parents were Harold C. Gray and Ardis Louise Ridenour Gray. Grady joined his sister, Karen Lee. The family lived in Seattle and Bellingham.Grady finished High School and went on to the University of Washington to study architecture. His schooling was interrupted by the death of his father and the Vietnam War where he served aboard the USS Camberra. He finished his bachelors and Masters Degree at Western Washington University where he met Dana. They were certain and were married within the year.Grady worked as school psychologist in schools in the shadow of Mt. Rainier. They welcomed Daymon in 1975 and Shane in 1977. They took a bold leap and moved to California for Grady to study Clinical Psychology at Psychological Studies Institute in Palo Alto where received his Ph.D. in 1980.When Dana found employment in the schools on Bainbridge Island, they moved to the island and began their careers. They raised their children and collected a fabulous, diverse, loving gaggle of friends. In 1986, he journeyed to Zurich to complete his education and become a practitioner of Process Oriented Psychology - shaping his lively, loving therapeutic style. Dana and Grady were part of many orbits of people in their community. They were members of the school community and the adult soccer community. They were involved in local professional circles as well as in Process Psychology circles in Seattle, Mt. Vernon and Yachats, Oregon. Other groups included kids' friends and their parents, soccer moms and dads, golf buddies, the art community, swimming and running friends, and, of course, those wonderful people who were Grady's clients and dream group participants.Grady threw himself into his life endeavors. He developed practices in Seattle and at his home on Bainbridge seeing many families through multiple generations and guiding clients through changes and challenges for decades. He built on to his homes. He built offices and waiting rooms, a shop, a sauna, a green house, and a meditation hut with the architect's fire that never ceased. He jogged, swam, ran marathons and triathlons. He planted gardens and 20 varieties of bamboo. His bamboo tours were legendary. He played soccer with passion. He golfed. And did he golf. He packed in all the golf that could be played in his last two decades.He birdied the 18th at St. Andrews, had three hole-in-ones and played to a 5 handicap just this April. He made wine as the Crystal Springs Vintner. He wrote a book from his experiences with his dreamwork groups. He collected life-long friends.Grady is survived by his wife of 45 years, Dana Sharlee Marrs (yes, Sharlee), his sons Daymon (m. Erikka Martin) and grandchildren, Byron, Winslow and Gabriel in Hailey, Idaho and Shane ( m. Gretchen Engel) and Audrey and Tristan in Redmond, Washington. He is survived by his sister, Karen Shoemaker, of Hanford, California.We will gather to celebrate his life - - - a life that he recently summarized with a dream figure of a beautiful, Spanish dancer - -He saw his life a dance - - - Dancing with Karmelita.We will gather at the Commons at Bainbridge High School on September 16 at 2:00.
