a lifelong resident of Little Boston, lived a life full of laughter, whit and charm. He was famous for his storytelling, sharing stories about his adventures in life and as a soldier in the U.S. Army in WWII. He loved spending time with his family, watching baseball games and spending time with his nephews teaching them to hunt and fish. Ivan loved spending time at the beach and going for rides in the car.Ivan was born on December 13, 1921 to William and Ellen (Sigo) George as their ninth of ten children, all of whom preceded him in death (Clara Jones, Emore George, Claude George, Sr., William George, Ralph George, Cyrene Sullivan, Juanita Purser, Jewell Makris, and LouLou Johnson). At the age of 88 Ivan achieved the status of being the oldest living Port Gamble S'Klallam Tribal member. Although he was quite the charmer, Ivan was never married or had any biological children. He was "Uncle Ivar" to literally hundreds of nieces and nephews in the Sullivan, George, Jones, and Ives families.Ivan grew up a hard worker on his family farm in Little Boston in charge of milking their cows. After high school he worked at the local CC Camp. He spent many years working as a long shore-man before being drafted into the Army in 1942. One of the most notworthy accomplishments was storming Omaha Beach in France. He returned home in 1945 after completing his service. He finished his working career at the Pope & Talbot Sawmill.Ivan was a man who was proud of his family. He valued education and loved to laugh, sing and dance. He loved the Mariners, hot fires and sitting in his easy chair. He enjoyed visiting with many friends and family members in his home where he passed away peacefully on June 18, 2010.A viewing will begin at 12 Noon with Funeral services at 1:00 PM on Friday, June 25 at the Port Gamble S'Klallam Tribal Gymnasium. Memorials may be made to the Port Gamble S'Klallam Foundation Veterans Fund or Hospice of Kitsap County.
