62, passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2009 at Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton, Washington. He was born January 23, 1947 in Aurora, Illinois, the son of Edward and Francis (Webber) Greiter.Jim attended high school in Batavia, Illinois. He served in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War from 1964 to 1967.On May 20, 1977, Jim married his best friend and partner, Jennie (Burns) Greiter. Together, the two of them adventured to Boise, Idaho, where they raised their son, Jimmy Greiter, and they lived 10 years before finding their home on Bainbridge Island, Washington where they have lived for 22 years.Jim was well-respected and dearly loved at Amtrak, from which he retired after 37 years. At both his job and in his personal life, Jim was a man of strong character and integrity. The people Jim met and the friends he made at the railroad have been a second family for him.Jim was generous and devoted to his friends and his family. He was out-going and charming. He was a jokester who lived life on his own terms and loved to have a good time. He was an avid and competitive bowler, and recently he began experimenting with day-trading stocks in his spare time. Most importantly, he surrounded himself with close friends, and he touched many lives. Jim is survived by his loving wife, Jennie (Burns) Greiter; his son, Jim Greiter Jr. of Lansing, Michigan; his two granddaughters, Shai-Linn Greiter and Chantal Shepherd; his brothers, Tom (Jackie) Greiter of Batavia, Illinois and Tim Greiter of Batavia, Illinois; his step-brothers Jeff (Melanie) Nelson of Keller, Texas and Bruce (Suzanne) Nelson of Rochester Hills, Michigan; his brothers-in-law Robbie (Annie) Burns of Midway Pennsylvania, Tom (Gayle) Burns of Buckhorn, Kentucky, and Dave (Darlene) Cox of Biglerville, Pennsylvania; a mother-in-law who is like a mother to him, Mum Burns; his former wife Kathy Bond of Avilla, Indiana; and a wealth of valued friends who meant the world to him. Darlin' will be dearly missed.Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visitation on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, 1310 Madison Avenue NE on Bainbridge Island. The Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, July 2, 2009 at 11:00 AM also at the church. A reception will follow at the church - Conger Hall.Interment will take place at 3:00 PM at Port Blakely Cemetery on Bainbridge Island. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society or to your favorite charity.
