Joanne E. Newland

passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2009 at Silverton Hospital in Silverton, Oregon. She was born on June 3, 1930 and was 79 years of age. Joan was a resident of Woodburn, Oregon. She graduated from Franklin High School and was formerly of Seattle, Washington and Kodiak, Alaska. She enjoyed raising her grandchildren, knitting, crafts, cooking, sewing, and playing the organ and piano. Joanne is survived by her mother Lillian Blanche Jay, husband Ernest Newland, brother John M. Jay, daughter Joanie Carr, sons Ernest and Marvin Newland, 6 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visitation on Wednesday, August 26, 2009 from 5:00 PM -8:00 PM at Cook Family Funeral Home, 163 Wyatt Way NE on Bainbridge Island. The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, August 27, 2009 at 10:30 AM at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church on Bainbridge Island, Washington. A reception will follow at the church. Interment will take place at 2:00 PM at Washington Memorial Park in Seattle, WA(Directions).Arrangements entrusted to Cook Family Funeral Home.
