passed away on May 8, 2008. She was born on July 9, 1927 in Big Stone Gap, Virginia, to Thurston and Mae Stone.She graduated from Madison College, married Jay G. Kauffman in 1950, lived in Pennington Gap, Virginia, where she taught science at the high school. They moved to Richmond, VA in 1964, and she taught chemistry and physics at Hugenot Jr. High.She loved gardening, feeding birds, reading, dogs, flower arranging and antiques. In 1974 she purchased Trabue's Tavern in Midlothian ,Va, which she opened for many historic house tours. In 1989 she moved to Baltimore to live with her only child, Kay Kauffman. When Kay retired in 1992, they moved to the Puget Sound area of Washington, where Margaret loved the views of the majestic Olympic Mountains and Kay's abundant gardens surrounding their home.Despite the pain of a failing heart and lungs, she still thought of others and kept up a smile through her final days. She retained her gracious southern charm and endearing southwest Virginia drawl.She is survived by her dearly beloved daughter, Kay Kauffman of Hansville, Washington, a sister, Mae Banner Carmody of Florida, and their 5 pets. Arrangements are pending through Cook Family Funeral Home.
