96, of Bainbridge Island, Washington passed away on Thursday, September 11, 2008. She was born in August of 1912, in Ramona Acres (Los Angles County), California to Reverend Thorlief T. Ove and Gunda Johnson Ove. Margaret had two half-brothers - Bjarne F. Ove and Gerhard O. Ove - one brother, Harold T. Ove, and one sister, Katherine Ove Pearsall.Margaret was raised in Aberdeen, Washington and was the secretary for grade and junior high schools in Aberdeen for 7 years. While in Aberdeen she met her future husband, Laurel G. Smith. Margaret and Laurel were married September 11, 1937, and lived in Spokane, Wa., Montesano, Wa., Yakima, Wa., Pullman, Wa., Berkely, Ca., Tenefly, NJ, Denver, Co., Hartsdale, NY, Atlanta, Ga., and Bronxville, NY. When Laurel retired from Shell in 1968, he and Margaret built their retirement dream home on Wing Point Golf Course on Bainbridge Island and became members of Wing Point Golf and Country Club. Laurel and Margaret were members of Bethany Lutheran Church of Bainbridge Island, where Margaret was a member of Altar Guild and was the Church Librarian for 6 years. Margaret, an avid reader, had previously volunteered in school libraries in Atlanta, GA and in the Doctor's library in a Hospital in Bronxville, NY.Our Mother is remembered as a loving wife and mother who always made family her first priority. Her children always had all the time they needed with Mom. Mom's hobbies included reading, knitting, and flower arranging.Margaret is survived by sons Brent (Sheryl) Smith of Alpharetta, GA; Craig (Anneke) Smith of Minneapolis, MN; and Cory (Roberta Connelly) Smith of Seattle, WA; 5 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the Gentle Care staff at Messenger House and Hospice of Kitsap County for providing loving care to Margaret.A memorial service will be held on October 15th at 11 am at Bethany Lutheran Church on Bainbridge Island.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests remembrances in her name to Alzheimer's Association, 12721 30th Ave. NE, Seattle, WA 98125.
