Noburo Koura

passed away peacefully Sunday afternoon, July 17, 2011, with his loving wife and children at his bedside. Cause of death was complications from Alzheimer's.Nob was born to Otohiko and Hatsuko Koura April 10, 1920 in Seattle, Washington. He lived a long, full life filled with accomplishments and responsibilities he performed admirably. After graduating from Bainbridge Island High School and internment in Minidoka during WWII, he served in the U.S. Army towards the end of the war. While in the service he married Mary Hayano. Only his death ended their happy marriage.After the war, they returned to Bainbridge Island, where Nob with his father and brothers and their families were successful berry farmers. He built the home where he and Mary raised their family. During the middle of his life, while working the farm and raising a family, Nob returned to school and made a career switch becoming a computer programmer.Nob remained active in retirement. He was an avid golfer and gardener. He traveled with Mary and their friends. He enjoyed the fellowship of his faith and friends at Bethany Lutheran Church on the Island. And, most of all he took pleasure in his family. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.Unfortunately in his last few years due to Alzheimer's Nob was unable to take satisfaction in his accomplishments. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Kenso, and sister, Sachiko. He is survived by his wife, Mary; two brothers and a sister, Arthur, Tony and Sue; daughter, Carole; son, Scott and his wife, Jane; two grandsons, Travis and Curtis; two granddaughters, Rebecca and Jennifer; and two great-grandchildren, Anna and Adam. Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Memorial Service on Saturday, July 23, 2011 at 1:00 pm at Bethany Lutheran Church on Bainbridge Island, Washington. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Nob's name to your favorite charity.
