Robert A. Pierce

d. August 1, 2010

passed away Sunday August 1st at the age of ninety. He was comfortable and in the company of family and friends at the Kitsap Hospice. Bob was born in Seattle and raised a farmer near Prosser, WA. He joined the Navy at a young age, saw much of the world, and served in both Atlantic and Pacific theaters during World War Two as a gunners mate. In peacetime he remained at sea as an able bodied seaman and ships carpenter. He retired to Bainbridge Island and enjoyed gardening, canoeing, kayaking and membership in the Sportsman's Club. Many may remember Bob trekking around Bainbridge and Seattle regularly with his backpack and walking stick. He was an avid reader and regular patron of the library, an amateur naturalist and provider of habitat to wild birds, and a keen observer of human nature. He is survived by a daughter, son, sister, brother, four grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial Mass will be held at St Cecilia's Catholic Church where he was a member Friday August 20th at 11AM. An informal gathering to share memories of Bob's life will be held at the Bainbridge Senior Center from 4:30 to 6 PM.
