Alan Williamson passed away on July 19, 2020 in his Bainbridge Island home with his family by his side. Al is survived by his wife, three children, two grandchildren and one first-rate fishing boat.
Known for his humor, creativity, infectious smile and insatiable appetite for all things seafood, Al, aka "Big Al", aka "Where there's a Will there's a way", aka "the Exotic One", was a true Pacific Northwesterner. Born in Albuquerque, NM, Al and his family soon moved to the beaches of Kingston, WA, where he and his brother grew up as wild as the Olympic Mountains they roamed.
Throughout his life Al biked, boated, hiked, hunted, fished and photographed his way across Washington State and beyond. With a truly adventurous spirit Al was known locally as the only guy crazy enough to commute by personal boat from Bainbridge Island to the beaches of West Point Water Treatment Plant for all of the 38 years he worked there. In his trusty watercraft Al witnessed migrating orcas, curious gray whales, talkative sea lions, fiery sunsets and raging storms.
Al was a husband, a father, a teacher, a mentor and a friend. In his spare time he introduced his kids (and all their friends) to the art of camping, took up leatherworking, taught himself architecture, designed and built two beautiful homes, learned to surf, swam with the manta rays off the Hawaiian coast, hunted deer in the mountains of Sonora, Mexico, scuba dived, built treehouses, and always had time for a midnight game of flashlight tag, croquet or a last minute turkey hunt. Al's future plans include fishing among the stars and playing cosmic fetch with his dog Rusty. His family will miss their beloved adventurer.
