Our beloved father of nine, husband to Anna McDonald for 65 years, and grandfather of 12, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2009 at the age of 91. He was born on December 4, 1917 in Roxbury, Mass. Mr. McDonald attended parochial schools, learned to box at the Boys Club, and later attended Boston College High School on scholarship. In 1942, he volunteered for the Army and used his boxing expertise to earn 3-day passes to woo Miss Anna Noone of Lynn, Mass. Mr. McDonald claimed his wedding to Anna on September 18, 1943, ‘the greatest day of my life." During WWII he earned three battle stars in Germany. After completing his education at the Lowell Institute at MIT, Mr. McDonald worked for General Electric as Senior Engineer. In 1949, GE moved Mr. McDonald and his family to Seattle, where he was active in the Seattle Knights of Columbus. In 1958, he moved his family to Yakima, WA. to be closer to his work at the Hanford Nuclear Reservation. After 25 years, Mr. McDonald left General Electric to join WPPSS as manager of the nuclear generating plant. He spent 23 years with WPPSS. He was active in his community serving as President of the Yakima Central Catholic High School PTA, and as a Board Member of Yakima Grid Kids Football. Upon retiring from WPPSS, Pete and Anna moved to Poulsbo, WA. His love for his wife was unwavering, his pride in his children and grandchildren unmatched, and his Catholic faith staunch. We will miss you dearly, Pete. Mr. McDonald is pre-deceased by his sister Isabelle, brothers Dick and Jack, and daughters Louise and Lea. He is survived by his wife Anna, his children (and spouses) Susann, Kevin (Bethany), Karin (Clark), Sean (Debbie), Anne (Bob), Teresa, and Mary (John) and grand children: John, Ross, Jason, Michael, Meghan, Colin, Erin, Kelly, Sean, Michael, Molly, and Jamie. There will be a Funeral Mass on Saturday, February 28th, 9:00 a.m., at St. Cecilia Church, 1310 Madison Ave North, Bainbridge Island. After the Mass, a reception to celebrate Pete's life will be held at the Senior Community Center, 370 Brien Drive S.E., Bainbridge Island, until 1:30. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Vincent De Paul Society in your community.
