loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend passed away December 17, 2016 at Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton.She was born in Longmont, Colorado July 21, 1922 to John Ramey and Pauline Elizabeth Payne. She attended high school in Wheatridge, Colorado. Anna and George Strobeck were married in Denver, Colorado on August 11, 1940. They shared 64 years of memories together.George and Ruth moved to Bainbridge Island in 1941, then for a short time to Philadelphia, finally returning to Bainbridge. Anna worked 20 yrs at the Island Bazaar and 8 yrs for the Bainbridge School District in food service. She was a member of the Amelia Hungerford Orthopedic Guild for Children's Hospital and a 20 yr volunteer for the Chuckwagon Senior Nutrition Program. She served as a leader for Bluebirds, Campfire Girls, and Cub Scouts. Anna enjoyed walking, golf, cooking, and camping. Her pets were beloved companions.She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers John and Edward Payne, sister Rachael Nugent, nephews Tom Payne, Wes and Bill Nugent, husband George, and grandson Donald Schwartz. Anna is survived by her son George Strobeck, Jr and daughter Sharon (Robert) Carter. She has 8 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, as well as many Island friends, special neighbors at Finch Place, and the staff and friends at Crista Shores in Silverdale.There is no service at her request, a private family gathering is planned. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to seattlechildrens.org, Bainbridge Island Ambulance Association, or the American Diabetes Association. Please sign the online Guest Book for the family.
