age 80 died peacefully on Sunday April 8th, 2018 at Virginia Mason Medical Center Seattle, WA surrounded by his loving family.From his birth in Devils Lake, North Dakota to Joseph and Anna Mae Eifert on July 1st, 1937 and throughout his military and civilian life, Joe was a selfless, gentle and compassionate man.When Joe left high school he enlisted in the United States Navy, answering the call to serve his country for 20 years including 2 tours in Vietnam as a Seabee. While deployed in Dunoon, Scotland aboard the USS Canopus as a supply corps officer, he met and married his beloved wife Anna (Bowman) Eifert in 1971 and began to raise their family together.After retiring from the United States Navy, Joe dedicated his working life for over 20 years at Pan Am World Services at Naval Submarine Base Bangor including 2 years at the John C. Stennis Space Center in Mississippi culminating with his retirement from Johnson Controls Inc. at Naval Submarine Base Bangor in 2006. Joe's passion and dedication for his work provided a meaningful and purposeful professional career.Joe is preceded in his death by his parents, and his granddaughter Clara Alana Josephine Howitt in Scotland. He will be forever missed and loved by his devoted wife Anna, sons Simon and Robert Howitt, and John Eifert, his daughter Jennifer Moreton and son-in-law Stephen Moreton. "Papa Joe" as his granddaughters Zoe Hannah Moreton, Fiona Koh Howitt, and Lily Elizabeth Anna Howitt called him will always eternally love and miss him.Funeral services with military honors will be held on Saturday April 11th, 2018 at First Lutheran Church, Poulsbo, WA, followed by a reception.
