a much beloved wife, mother, sister, friend to many, and hub of the Sather family, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer, Friday July 5, 2013. She was 82.Barbara was born in Puyallup, WA. and grew up in Auburn, WA. She attended Central Washington State University, where she graduated with a degree in Education & Home Economics with minors in Music & Art. At Central, she met her husband of 53 years, Birger Sather. They married in 1958 and moved to Redmond, WA, where Birger worked as a veterinarian. Barbara and Birger raised 5 children, and Barbara was actively involved in all of the kids' activities from horse shows, to sports to science fairs.Over the years, Barbara worked as a teacher in different venues. She had boundless energy for new projects, including winemaking, art and was a skilled seamstress. She was an avid runner, soccer player, ballroom and belly dancer, and loved to garden and travel. She had a passion for life that she imparted to her children and grandchildren.Barbara and Birger retired to the Kitsap Peninsula, where she continued to be actively involved in the community. Over the years, Barbara was a member of Holy Family, St. Judes, and St. Olaf's Parishes, Boys and Girls State Government Education program, and American Legion Auxiliary, among others. For the past 13 years she generously worked on behalf of veterans and their familys through the American Legion Post 245 in Poulsbo, WA.Barbara was preceded in death by her husband Birger, whom she tirelessly and selflessly cared for at home in the last years of his life. She is survived by 3 daughters, Sondra, Paula, and Jeri-Lyn, 2 sons, Denis and Steven, 10 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild, her brother Marvin, and sisters d'Elaine, Yvonne, and Rose. She leaves behind the scores of relatives, friends, and neighbors whose lives she has touched. Barbara's smile and zest for life will be missed.Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at 12 Noon at St. Olaf Catholic Church in Poulsbo,, WA.
