Becky Louann Wright passed away on the afternoon of December 14, 2021, at the St. Michael Medical Center in Silverdale, from complications stemming from small cell lung cancer. She was 70 years old, peaceful, and surrounded by loved ones.
Born in August of 1951 to Martha and Ralph Rossell, Becky spent her childhood and formative years on Bainbridge Island with her siblings Tommy, Jeanne and Tricia. After graduating in 1969 from Bainbridge high school, she fled to California where she roamed the bay area, bummed around beaches and even survived Altamont, before returning to the Seattle area in the early 70’s to reestablish her roots. Becky began working for a Bainbridge company, Watson Furniture, as a manager for their Seattle warehouse and showroom. For years she spoke over the phone with a kindly gentleman across the sound, Michael, who ran the night shift at the Bainbridge facility; according to Michael, Becky, who would coordinate nightly shipments from the island to Seattle, always wanted to extend their nightly phone calls beyond business, to something more personal, but Michael, being the consummate professional he is, was reluctant. We never did get Mom’s side of this story, so we’ll take it with a grain of salt.
That said, in 1978, after several years with Watson, Becky transferred to the Bainbridge site where Michael and her mom, Marty, both worked. On July 23, 1978, after speaking for years but never actually meeting, Becky and Michael went to see Star Wars at the Big Bear Drive-In; they were engaged three days later and married on November 11 of that same year at Seabold Church on Bainbridge Island. They remained married up to the day she passed, 43 years, and have two children, Emily and Mathew, who love and miss her so, so much.
Everything Becky did she did with strength, dedication, and pride. For thirteen years she was the CFO for MOWCO corporation, a company Michael started that would not have been successful had she not been the backbone. When that company sold in 2000, Becky took a few years for herself before dedicating her energy to HMS Pacific Navigation, a vessel management company located on Bainbridge, where for nearly fifteen years she again kept things afloat with her work ethic and integrity.
Becky took great pride in her work, but she will be best remembered as an amazing mom, partner and friend. We will remember Becky for her care and adoration for all animals; for navigating the wilds of her garden, watching Twin Peaks or Lost, and reading Patricia Cornwell paperbacks until midnight, perched on a stool at the kitchen counter. She loved our trips to the coast and lounging in Kaanapali, and she dreaded our large summer parties and Michael’s demand for live music at every opportunity. She treasured pool time with her grandkids in summer and our Christmas morning traditions; we were hoping to get one more of those with her this year.
Those who met Becky adored her. She was gentle, understanding, reserved, and had the best smile. Becky is pre-deceased by her mother, Marty, who was a model for what a great mom can be; she is survived by her three siblings, her husband and two kids, and her three grandchildren, Carroll, Frances and Ruby, who were robbed of her too soon but will forever be shaped by her kindness, strength and love.
