Betty Jean Hayes

(Slatter), age 89, of Twin Falls, Idaho, went to be with her Lord on 12-12-17.Betty Jean was born November 21, 1928, in Filer, Idaho to Pete & Clara Slatter. She grew up on the family farm and attended Elmwood Grade School and Filer High School.She married Walt L. Shetler December 18, 1949. They raised 5 children, first on a farm in the Twin Falls, Idaho area and then on a cattle ranch near Salmon, Idaho for several years. Her skills of gardening, canning and cooking from scratch came to full use there. She later returned to Twin Falls where she worked at the Twin Falls Memorial Hospital with her mother.Betty was a member of the First United Brethren Church in Twin Falls and the pianist for several years. She also played the guitar for special songs at the church. She enjoyed her grandchildren and went on trips and vacations with them many times.August 8, 1988, she married Ray C. Hayes and they lived in Twin Falls, Idaho, until his death, when she moved to Poulsbo, WA in approximately 1997.Betty is survived by her older brother, Harold Slatter of Twin Falls, Idaho, her five children, Marilyn K. McArdle (David), Suquamish, WA; J. Thompson; Walter Gene Shetler and Richard D. Shetler both of Moses Lake, WA. and Kathy Wood (Paul), of Golden Valley, AZ. Also eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ray, her brother Bob Slatter and one grand-daughter. Services will be in Twin Falls, Idaho in late May 2018. Notice will be given to family and friends of the place, date and time.
