Carol passed away on June 30th, 2021, in Bremerton, WA. Born on October 6th, 1935, in Cape May, New
Jersey, her parents were Jesse Stover and Clara (Pierson) Matchner. Carol graduated from Cape May
High School in 1953. Carol met and married John Myrel Lehman in 1954 while he was serving in the U.S.
Coast Guard. They were married for 64 years, until John’s death in 2018. Carol was a homemaker until
1972 when she began working at a government job in the Civil Service. Carol primarily worked at the
Naval Submarine Base in Groton CT as an education technician for what was then known as Navy
Campus for Achievement. She retired in 2006 after 34 years in the civil service. Carol was a survivor of
cancer, both myeloma and breast cancer. Carol’s local residences as a Coast Guard spouse included
Cape May, NJ, Norfolk, VA, Juneau, AK, Washington, D.C., New York, NY, and East Lyme, CT. Carol lived
in East Lyme until 2016, when she and John moved to Bremerton to be closer to family. Carol was
preceded in death by her brother, Richard Matchner and her sister Joyce (Matchner) Worth. She is
survived by two daughters, Cheryl Snyder (Peter) of Edmonds, WA, Jill Lehman (Henry Warner) of
Bainbridge Island, WA, and two grandchildren, Bennett and Elizabeth. A private interment will be held
later. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
