passed away on Friday, January 4, 2008 at her home on Bainbridge Island, Washington. She was 70 years of age. and born on April 7, 1937 on Bainbridge Island to Frederick C. Nelson and Marie Barlow.She was born in Port Blakely on April 7, 1937 to Fred and Marie Nelson and was a 1955 graduate of Bainbridge High School. Though she briefly lived in Olympia and Ketchikan, Alaska she returned to the island in 1962 and remained what she termed an "old islander" until her death. A fourth generation resident, her family homesteaded on Bainbridge in the early 1900's. Her grandfather, Harry Barlow was one of the captains of the Mosquito fleet, and piloted vessels along Puget Sound preceding today's Washington State Ferry System.A homemaker and mother of three children, Caroline devoted her life to family and her husband of 42 years, Bob Lindsey. Together they owned and operated Lindsey Tree Farm on Day Road, selling Christmas trees during the holidays. She enjoyed traveling, reading and needlework and spending time with her grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Dalton Lindsey, brother Fred Nelson and sister Rosemarie Merk. She is survived by her children, Michael Patterson and his wife Ruby of Poulsbo, WA; Robert Lindsey and his wife, Karen of Bainbridge Island and Patricia Mackey and her husband Charles of Ketchikan, AK. She is also survived by grandchildren Lauren and Hannah Patterson, Ashley and Erin Lindsey and Kevin and Cameron Mackey and several nieces and nephews.At her request, no public services are planned. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the Bainbridge Island Firefighter's Association, 8895 Madison Avenue, Bainbridge Island, WA 98110.Arrangements entrusted to Cook Family Funeral Home.
