Christine (Chris) Marie Rogers (formerly Warmedahl, nee Brice), passed away July 13, 2024 surrounded by her loving family in Brownsville, Washington. She was 75 years old. Chris succumbed to complications of Parkinson's disease. She was born in Youngstown, Ohio on February 21, 1949 to Donald and Dorothy Brice.
Chris was a beloved and talented teacher loved by students and parents, spending almost all of her career teaching kindergarten in South Kitsap School District. She earned her Teaching Certificate from the University of Washington, along with a Master of Education Certificate from Lesley University, and achieved the high standard of Board Certification as a National Board Certified Teacher.
Chris lived a life full of joy, making many friends along the way. A lifelong athlete, she excelled in outdoor activities, including soccer, skiing, hiking, camping, backpacking, mountaineering, cycling, photography, and bird-watching.
Chris loved being a Mom to her three beautiful children who survive her, Emily Warmedahl (Jeff Larkey), Annie Warmedahl (Weston Lambert), and Trevor Warmedahl. She instilled in them a deep respect for each other, the richness of family, love of nature, and inquiry of the world.
Chris married Tom Rogers in 2016. They enjoyed an active joyful retirement together, traveling, backpacking, mountaineering and riding a tandem bicycle thousands of miles in the western U.S. and Europe. Chris was also a nuclear weapons resistor with Ground Zero Center for Nonviolent Action and was cited several times for blocking access to the Bangor Nuclear Submarine Base. In her court testimony she eloquently emphasized the effects of nuclear weapons on children.
She is survived by her loving husband, Tom Rogers. She is also survived by her loving twin sister, Susie Burke (John Ripley), and her precious nieces, nephew, grandnieces, grandnephews, and a great grandniece, Rachel Brice, Clarie Burke, Ryan Lantz (Erin), and Katie Poortinga (Kent), and a great-aunt to Hailey Otis, Isla Poortinga, Beau Lantz, Odin Poortinga, Grey Lantz, and a great-great-aunt to Lainey Culp. Her older brother, David Brice, predeceased Chris.
A celebration of Chris’ life is being planned for September 15, 2024 at Ground Zero Center for Nonviolent Action in Poulsbo. In response to those who may ask for guidance on donations, Chris would advise that you spend as much as you want on something special for yourself in her honor.
