Daniel Herbert Wenzlaff
May 24, 1913 to June 11, 2019
Dan passed away quietly on Tuesday, June 11th, 2019 at the age of 106 at the Brookdale Montclair Park of Poulsbo, Wa. On his 106th birthday he stated that "he might make 107 but he didn't think he would see 108".
Dan was born in Yakima, Washington to Robert and Louise Wenzlaff (Schmidt). His father owned a fruit orchard in Zillah, Washington where they lived until 1929. In 1929 the family moved to Seattle where Dan graduated from Roosevelt High School.
After his graduation, Dan worked at American Can Company as a mechanic for 9 years. He later drove a cab for 6 years and loved every minute of it. Following his driving days, he went to work for the State as a soil engineer and surveyor where he remained for 25 years. During his time with the State, Dan worked on the Interstate 5 project from Seattle to Marysville. In 1976 he retired from State employment.
Dan met Phyllis Mattocks in 1934 and they were married on October 26th, 1938. They were blessed with 3 children; Patricia, Ezilda and Robert.
Dan enjoyed golfing as well as bowling with his wife Phyllis along with enjoying pinochle, cribbage and other card games with family and friends.
Dan was sadly predeceased by his wife Phyllis in 2011. Dan was also predeceased by Robert and Louise and sisters Lucille Schedin and Margaret Rood.
He is survived by his 3 children; Patricia Smith of Napa, California , E..M."Kitti"Stuart (Barry Gump)of Green Valley, California and Robert (Elaine) of Poulsbo, Washington. He is also survived by his grandchildren Lance Smith(Riki), Michelle Smith-Gilbert(Christopher),Dan Stuart, Amanda Wenzlaff, Samantha Wenzlaff-Feiring(Travis). Great grandchildren Zee Smith, Ella Smith, Jacob Smith, Connor Gilbert, Zoey Feiring and Magnus Feiring. His niece Judy Lanfear and her grandson Christopher and niece Marleen Moya and her family also survive him.
Dan will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, positive attitude and his pipe that he smoked for 88 of his 106 years.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 6th at 3:00 p.m. in the lobby of Brookdale Montclair Park at 1250 NE Lincoln Road in Poulsbo.
