Daniel Wayne Morsette, Jr.

d. March 13, 2018

was just 31 years young, when he unexpectedly passed on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 in Suquamish. He was born to Lorraine Brice and Danielle Morsette Sr. on July 16, 1986 in Havre, MT. He was raised and lived most his life in Kitsap County. As a young man he took the time to understand and respect his elders, he was a teacher and lead by example with the youth and younger generation. In his teenage to early adult years he was instrumental and part of bringing culture back to the Suquamish Tribe, he was active in teaching paddle making, an apprentice canoe builder, pulling canoe, a powerful singer with the Suquamish Canoe Family and Squamish Ocean Canoe Family, assisted in lushootseed language classes and many other important facets of his culture. He was proud to be Suquamish, Chippewa Cree and Sto:lo. He was a carver and artist. The art he made was inspired by his hunger for tradition and the values and beliefs he held dear to him. While JR took much pride sharing his creations with his family first, he was humble and willing to share his knowledge with anyone who sought it. JR lost his way and suffered for far too long. He tried many times to overcome what caused his pain. His parents stood by and supported him until the day he left us. The family would like to recognize the Suquamish Wellness Program, especially Brian Burwell for all their effort in supporting JR. He leaves behind many loved ones who will always remember the good in him and joins many loved ones embracing him on the other side. Those who have preceded him include his grandfather Harold Lloyd Belmont Sr. of Seattle, WA., grandparents Joseph and Ida Morsette of Rocky Boy, MT, and great grandparents Mary Louise and Honorato R. Rapada of Bainbridge Island, WA. Those left behind include his Father Daniel Wayne Morsette, Sr. of Bremerton, his Mother Lorraine Brice (James) of Indianola, WA, his Sisters, Lorilee Morsette (James) of Bremerton, Danielle Morsette (Shucks) of Suquamish, his brother Jonathan Morsette (Lenora) of Suquamish, grandmother Joy Belmont of Seattle, 3 Uncles, Richard Belmont of Marysville, Mark Belmont (Wanda) of Morley Alberta, Harold Lloyd Belmont, Jr of Kitsap County, Tracy Tabafunda (Gene) of Bainbridge Island, 3 nieces, Kiomi and Niomi Pavlock of Bremerton, Mila Jae Bagley Morsette of Suquamish, and his nephew Kaleo Nahanee of Suquamish. Family and friends are invited to his viewing/service on Saturday March 17, 2018, 9am to 10 AM at the Suquamish House of Awakened Culture 725 NE Parkway Suquamish WA 98392.
