David Colin Chadband

d. June 9, 2017

was the first-born child of Colin Henry Chadband and Marian (Indart), on December 19, 1947, in Santa Maria, CA. He died on June 9, 2017, following an 11 month battle with liver cancer.David was very private about his illness, so many friends and family may be surprised to learn of his passing. David knew what he wanted and with the help our Hospice team (his loving wife Kathy, children Colin and Emma, sister Colleen (Chadband) O'Hollaren, brother Paul Chadband, life long friends Bill and Jil Delanty, nurse Lisa and aide Jillian) he died peacefully at home on Bainbridge Island, WA, surrounded by his loved ones.Dave grew up in sunny California and loved baseball and surfing. He was drafted January 24, 1968, into the U.S. Army and bravely served in Vietnam until his release from active duty on January 4, 1970, receiving the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal. Upon return to the states, he spent time skateboarding and surfing in Southern California and Hawaii. He eventually settled in Huntington Beach, CA, where he opened up his own surf shop "Pacific Surfboards" on Main Street in Huntington Beach. It was there that he met and later married the love of his life, Kathy Hagan in 1971.After leaving his surf shop business, Dave worked construction for many years, until being employed by the Department of Defense (DOD) in Seal Beach, CA as a blocker and bracer. He transferred to Keyport, WA in 1987, and remained with the DOD for 34 years, until retirement on May 2, 2014.David is survived by his wife Kathlene (Hagan), son Colin David (Suquamish, WA), daughter Emma Kathlene (Washington, DC), brother Paul Chadband (Norma) and their son John, sister Colleen O'Hollaren (Mark) and their children Sean and Megan. He was preceded in death by his parents Colin and Marian, brother Stephen (Debra and children Dustin, Kevin, Randi), and our littlest angel Chelsea Rose Chadband (daughter of Paul and Norma). We invite friends and family to an "open house" on June 17th at 3:00 p.m. for a taste of some of Dave's favorite barbecue. He was quite the gentle man and his love for family, soccer, golf, football, baseball, history, politics, crosswords, cookies and whiskey will keep him in our hearts and minds forever. Please sign the online guest book for the family. Arrangements are pending through Cook Family Funeral Home.
