passed away on Saturday, October 13, 2007 at The Messenger House on Bainbridge Island, Washington. He was 86 years of age and born on December 20, 1920. He leaves behind Olivia, his wife of 52 years, and their three children, Marc of El Sobrante, CA, John of Bainbridge Is, and Leslie of Kansas City, KN and their families.He was a native son of Seattle. He grew up in West Seattle, a place he would return to again and again. He spent much of his youth playing on the beach and building soap box derby cars and model airplanes. He graduated from Seattle Prep and his love of airplanes would result in him studying aeronautical engineering at University of Washington and California Institute of Technology. During WWII he learned to fly in the Seattle area.After briefly working for Northrop in CA, he joined Boeing where he met his best friend, Chuck Flora while working on his initial project with the B-52's. He worked on a variety of projects at Boeing including the flaps on the 747; a high-lift blown flaps collaboration with DeHavilland of Canada; and preliminary design studies that showed the cost advantage of two engines. He flew single engine light planes for many years and co-owned a Globe Swift plane. From his father, Leslie, he acquired a great love of life and the outdoors. He shared his sense of fun and adventure with his wife, Olivia. They both loved to ski and spend time at the beach. They had a second home at Ocean Shores in the 60's, before trading it for a room in Skiers Inc. at Crystal Mt. They retired to the beach on Camano Is., until returning to West Seattle. David was also an avid sailor owning a Star in the 50s and San Juan 21 in 70's that underwent several adventures in the San Juan Islands. These passions he has passed on to his children.A visitation will be held from 11:00 AM - 11:30 AM on Saturday, October 20, 2007 and the funeral service will follow at 12:00 Noon at Holyrood Catholic Cemetery Chapel, 205 NE 205th Street, Shoreline, WA 98153.
