David Lee Ortiz

David Lee Ortiz passed away on May 6, 2023. David was a talented chef who was able to travel and give the gift of food to many.


He was born in San Antonio, Texas, and grew up primarily in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He later moved to Bainbridge Island in early 2000 to raise his family. David loved the natural beauty and culture of the Pacific Northwest; his favorite weekend getaways were to the Washington Coast with his family. He and his partner, Shauna Sheridan, co-owned Salmon Canyon Café in Lynwood Center that was loved by the Bainbridge community for several years. David later retired being a business owner and ended his career with Seattle University where he enjoyed working with others passing on his culinary skills and expertise. He enjoyed music and exploring his craft in art, specifically Mexican Folk Art. David most loved being a father to his three daughters. His wisdom, humor, tenacity, and love will be missed by many.


He is survived by his partner Shauna Sheridan, and his three daughters, Mareval, Maya, and Thuy Lan. He is also survived by his five siblings, Aseneth Ortiz, Elias Ortiz, Richard Ortiz, Lisa Potts, and Todd Ortiz.


The family celebrated David on May 11, 2023. Those who wish to remember David may make a donation in his memory to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (Bremerton, WA).
