Delores Hall Van Wyck of Silverdale died on June 3 rd, 2022. She was 89 years old.
Delores was born in Center City, Minnesota to the late Raymond E. Hall and Lillian C. (Sellman) Hall. Delores’ loving husband Richard T. (Dick) Van Wyck passed on February 2, 2007. She is survived by her two children Susan Armo (Frank) and Kurt Van Wyck (Angie); 4 grandchildren; brother James Hall (Marion); two nieces, 3 grandnieces, and 1 grandnephew, as well as additional family and several dear friends.
Delores grew up on a farm in a small town in Minnesota. Her childhood memories are rich with extended family and friends being the central theme. After high school, she moved to Minneapolis and worked as an office assistant.
In 1960 she married Dick Van Wyck and they had two children. Delores embraced motherhood and caring for her family became her lifetime passion. As her kids grew, she supported them in tasks ranging from being a Cub Scout Den Mother and Girl Scout Cookie Mother to sewing elaborate dance costumes - not to mention all of the driving from activity to activity.
They briefly lived in Wichita and St. Louis after leaving Minneapolis. They settled in Memphis for the majority of the children’s school years. When the kids were in high school, they moved to Cincinnati and remained there for several years. Lastly, they lived in Naperville before officially retiring.
Throughout her many healthy years, Delores volunteered for numerous church committees and was an avid bridge player. She had many circles of bridge friends in the various cities that she and Dick lived through the years.
Following Dick’s retirement, they spent several years traveling back and forth across the country in their RV making new friends and experiencing new adventures. Eventually, they settled down in sunny Tucson for a couple of years before locating in the Northwest to be near family and grandchildren.
Delores and Dick created a comfortable retirement home in Hansville on the water, where they enjoyed watching the dynamics of Puget Sound and constant boat traffic. Visits from family and friends and playing bridge were favorite activities. In particular, Delores enjoyed visits from her grandchildren and collecting seashells and sea-glass on beach walks to the nearby lighthouse.
Delores spent the last five years in a small comfortable cottage in Silverdale, where she enjoyed the company of new friends in her retirement community.
Delores was kind, compassionate, quick with a smile, and a lifelong devoted mother. She will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held on June 23 rd at 10:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Poulsbo. In Lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Delores’ memory to Lutheran World Relief or Kitsap Rescue Mission.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Cook Family Funeral Home of Bainbridge Island.
