Donna Huso Plunkett

(85) passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2015 after a ten-year battle with cancer. Born September 16, 1929, Donna was the youngest of three raised on a farm in Aneta, North Dakota. Her Scandinavian farming roots gave her immense pride, and in many ways defined her throughout her life. Through the many adventures of her 85 years - graduating from Moorhead State, teaching primary school in Wyoming and Montana, traveling by ship to study in Norway as a young woman, marrying and raising two children in Clark County, Washington - she remained, stubbornly, a Norwegian Lutheran farm girl. She shied away from nothing and she told it like it was.Donna is survived by her brother Oscar Huso and sister Eunice Stein, her daughter Signe Pierce, son Erik Plunkett, son-in-law Craig Pierce, three grandchildren Josh, Emily and Kari, two great-grandchildren, and by her very dear friends Grant and Phyllis Gard and the women of Poulsbo First Lutheran. Fiercely loyal and unfailingly compassionate, Donna is remembered as the truest friend, the most loving mother.She was a no-nonsense kind of woman, with little time for frivolities but exceeding dedication to family tradition. That is her legacy. Through Donna's example her family learned to cherish time together and to share the stories that bind them. She fought cancer long enough to see her children and grandchildren carry the torch of tradition, learning to make her mother's lefse and every type of beloved Norwegian Christmas cookie. They know the stories by heart, and they understand the reason for sharing them.It is no small thing to be loved by you, Donna. You are already missed, but you live on in the traditions that bind us, and the shared history that you taught us. We love you always.Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Memorial Service on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at 11 AM at First Lutheran Church in Poulsbo, Washington. Memorial donations may be made to Kitsap Rescue Mission or Poulsbo First Lutheran Alter Guild, in memory of Donna.
