was born September 25, 1925 in Seattle, Washington, and died November 1, 2014 at her home on Bainbridge Island, Washington. She was a 49 year resident.Daughter of Julius and Alys Barrett Hale, Dorothy graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in Spokane, Washington. As a student, she enlisted in the United States Cadet Nurse Corp in 1943, graduating Sacred Heart School of Nursing in Spokane in 1946. Attending the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, she obtained a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Arts.After working as a psychiatric nursing instructor in Philadelphia for fifteen years, she came back home to the west coast with teaching positions at the University of Washington and Shoreline Community College. She retired in 1974.Dorothy was preceded in death by her first husband Charles W. Bruner of Calgary, Alberta, and Spokane, and their two sons Kerry and Christopher. She married Paul C. Amis in 1965 and had 44 years together before his death in 2009. Their lives were enhanced by ten Pembroke Corgis and innumerable felines. When care for the menagerie could be arranged, they traveled to Canada, Ireland, China, and the United Kingdom.Dot, as she preferred to be called, had an extensive music and book collection. They made the Depression less bleak. A classic movie library and her interest in genealogical and historical research kept her busy.She is survived by family friends Tim Culbert and Julie Ann Schaffer of Shoreline, WA, Emily Gustafson of Bainbridge Island, and Linda and Frank Sillikerof Calgary, Alberta. Her most wonderful Siamese Kiki Williams misses her dearly.Dot will be buried with Paul and her son Christopher at Port Blakely Cemetery on Bainbridge Island. No services at her request. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the Bainbridge Public Library or Port Blakely Cemetery.
