passed on September 8, 2010. He was 65 years of age. Doug was born in Woodburn, Oregon on January 25, 1945. His father was in the U.S. Coast Guard during his childhood. It was on trips to sea with his father he developed a deep love of birds and bird watching. Doug attended Oregon State University where he obtained a masters degree in Wildlife Management. He married his wife Suzanne (aka "Pipper" in 1967. He served during the Vietnam War, and was awarded a Bronze Star. He resided on Bainbridge Island for nearly 20 years, and enjoyed volunteering for Bainbridge Island Land Trust, Islandwood School, and was a member of various ornithological organizations. He was passionate about wildlife preservation and education. He is survived by his son Brad Watkins, daughter Erin Bang-Knudsen, son-in-law Paul Bang-Knudsen, grandson Mathias Bang-Knudsen and a granddaughter due in December of 2010; all residents of Bainbridge Island.
