"Betty", died March 10 at Island Health and Rehabilitation Center on the island. She was 88.Mrs. Ratterman was born in Stanley, N.D., and attended elementary and high schools in her home of Glasston, N.D., and in St. Thomas, N.D. She also attended the University of North Dakota. She served in the US Navy in World War II as a Pharmacists Mate First Class.After the war she moved to Albuquerque, NM, where her first husband obtained a law degree at the University of New Mexico. The couple then moved to Anchorage, AK, where her husband practiced law until his untimely death in 1964. Later, she worked in banking, in home decoration and as a newspaper reporter and columnist in Anchorage. She remarried in 1971. In 1989, after her husband's retirement, they moved to Bainbridge Island. While here, she worked as a fashion coordinator for Carlyle Fashions. Her life-long passions were women's fashions, home entertaining and home decorating.She leaves her husband, John F. Ratterman, of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Brooks Hutton, of Auburn, WA, and a son, James Connolly, of Temecula, CA; and four grandchildren.Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 19, at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, 1187 Wyatt Way, Bainbridge Island, Washington.
