Elizabeth Charlotte Baker

"Betty", passed away on Friday, September 14, 2007 at her home on Bainbridge Island, Washington. She was 92 years of age.She was born August 14, 1915, in Chicago Ill, to Charles and Mary McConnell. After graduating from Muskingum College, New Concord, Ohio, she taught elementary school in Morton Grove, IL. She married William Baker on June 12, 1942. They raised 3 children while living in Dayton, OH; Catonsville, MD; and Murrysville, PA. They retired to Cape Coral, FL, and then followed their daughter and family to Bainbridge in 1987. William died in 1993.Betty taught her family how to be loving and cheerful. She died after a 2-year struggle with colon cancer. With her indomitable spirit, she had just "danced" up the aisle in August after watching her granddaughter's marriage. She was thrilled to see Elisa wear the 95-year-old wedding dress also worn by Betty and her mother.Betty will be sorely missed by her daughter, Mary K Romeo of Bainbridge Island, sons and daughters-in-law Bruce and Deborah Baker of Midway, BC, Canada, and Douglas and Gina Baker of Placitas, NM; and grandchildren Sharon Romeo of Iowa City, IA; Elisa Romeo-Jufer of Pacifica, CA; Dustin Baker and Kendel Friesen of Midway, BC; Alexander Cutcliff of Pearl, MS; Cara Sowers of Placitas, NM; & 4 great grandchildren.A private family memorial service will be held.Arrangements by Cook Family Funeral Home.
