Erline Wade Reha

December 4, 1941 — June 1, 2022

Erline Wade Reha (80) died of natural causes on June 1, 2021. Erline was a 47-year resident of Bainbridge Island, a vibrant and active member of her community, and a beloved mother, sister, aunt, and grandmother.

Erline was born on December 4, 1941, in Spokane, WA. She was a graduate of Central Valley High School and the University of Washington. She worked for the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services as a counselor and supervisor in the public assistance and research divisions. Erline was a strong proponent of women’s rights and racial equality and brought these values to her work with underserved populations in Seattle.

Erline moved to Bainbridge in 1975 when she married Don Reha. In addition to commuting to Seattle for her profession, Erline was a well-known volunteer at the Bainbridge Island community pool, serving as a swimming instructor and safety advisor. She was also active in the public schools, co-chairing the original Wilkes Halloween Carnival, among many other roles. She enjoyed sewing costumes for the summer productions of Bainbridge Light Opera, serving as Volunteer Coordinator on the Board of Bainbridge Arts and Crafts, and leading tours as a docent for the Seattle Japanese Garden.

Erline was a highly creative and artistic person who loved crafts such as knitting and sewing, as well as world art and architecture. She was also a student of Ikebana (Japanese flower arrangement) and shared her love of flowers and gardening with family and friends. Erline traveled extensively in the seventies and later again after Don’s retirement. She visited all seven continents and the Arctic Circle, fulfilling a lifelong goal. Her most memorable trips included an African safari and an expedition to Wales to research her ancestry.

Erline is survived by her daughter, Megan Livingston (Brian) of Bainbridge Island, and two grandchildren, Wyatt and Fiona. She is also survived by her brother, Jeff Wade (Pam) of Paul, and five nieces. Erline is predeceased by her husband Don and brothers Larry and Bruce.

At her request, there will be no services. She would ask that you hug those near and dear to you, remember those less fortunate, pick up a good book or crossword puzzle, and donate to local museums and art programs.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Cook Family Funeral Home of Bainbridge Island.
