Obituary:
Freda L. Coleman, lovingly known as Fern, passed away on July 7, 2024, on Bainbridge Island, WA. She was born on July 8, 1924, in Ft. Smith, Arkansas. Fern graduated from Charleston High School in 1943 and immediately after WWII, she married the love of her life, Richard L Coleman. Together, they built a beautiful life on Bainbridge Island.
In 1944, Fern joined the Navy and dedicated 34 years of her life serving in Bremerton, WA before retiring in 1979. Her career was not just a job but a passion she pursued wholeheartedly. Alongside her dedication to work, Fern and her husband shared many hobbies; they were avid fishermen, golfers, and bowlers, and enjoyed the comfort of being homebodies.
Upon retirement, Fern and Richard spent six months every year in Mesa, AZ indulging in their shared love for golf. Their companionship was a true testament to love and partnership.
Freda L. Coleman was preceded in death by her beloved husband in 1991. She is survived by her grandchildren: Richard from Longview WA and Michelle from Kent WA; as well as her two great-grandchildren: Mikayla and Miranda. In addition, she leaves behind one sister, Eula Armstrong from Van Buren AR.
Fern will be remembered for her unwavering commitment to family, her adventurous spirit on the golf course, and the warmth she shared with all who knew her.
