George Oliver Mcvey

June 19, 1929 — April 20, 2022

George Oliver McVey, 92, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, at the Martha and Mary Health and Rehabilitation Center in Poulsbo, WA. He was born June 19, 1929, in Weed, CA, near Mt. Shasta. He was the son of Claudius (Claude) Albert McVey, Sr., and Georgia Owen Trabue McVey.

George was one of three children. He lived in Weed, CA until 1940. He was 11 years old when the family moved to the Magnolia Bluff area of Seattle. He finished grade school there and attended the 9th grade at Queen Anne High School. His family then moved to Tacoma where he met Donna Jean Arnold at Stadium High School. Their first date was attending the commencement exercises of the Class of '46. The two dated during their senior year and both graduated in June 1947.

George attended the University of Washington. Donna attended the College of Puget Sound. The couple married on March 16, 1951, in Tacoma. George received a BS Degree in Electrical Engineering in December 1951 and a BS Degree in Industrial Engineering in June 1952.

Donna and George had three sons: Gary Brian McVey, born July 12, 1956, in Long Beach, CA.
Christen George McVey, was born October 28, 1957, in Orange, CA. Gregory Owen McVey was born June 27, 1967, in Cincinnati, OH.

Donna and George moved to Long Beach, CA in June 1952, where he went to work for the Procter and Gamble Co. (P&G) as a Job Study Engineer. In January 1954, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and worked on electronic encoding equipment at the National Security Agency in Washington, D.C. for two years.

George rejoined P&G in Long Beach, CA as a Process Department Manager. After five years, he was transferred to the Engineering Division in Cincinnati, OH where he spent the rest of his 32-year career with P&G.

George retired from Procter and Gamble in 1984, and joined the Belcan Corporation, doing consulting engineering work. In 1989, he formed his own company, McVey & Associates, Inc., and continued to do consulting engineering work. In 1992, he took a leave of absence from McVey & Associates to serve a year-long full-time mission with Donna for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. After the mission, in 1993, he fully retired in Poulsbo, WA.

George was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in 1974. His callings in the Church were many, and included; Bishop of the Cincinnati Third Ward, President of the Cincinnati Ohio Stake, Co-Director of Public Affairs (with Donna) for the Silverdale WA Stake.

Relatives and friends are invited to his service on Friday, May 6, 2022, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints 2138 NE Medford Street, Poulsbo, WA 98370. Visitation will be at noon, service at 1:00 PM. Interment will be made immediately following the service in the Cherry Grove Cemetery 22272 Foss Road NE Poulsbo, WA 98370.

George was preceded in death by his wife Donna and brother Claude. George is survived by; his brother Doug, sons Gary (Paula), Chris (Kathy), Greg (Amy), grandchildren Jared, Ryan, Connor (Morgan), Tori Adams (Connor), Bryce, Pierce, Ryah, and great-granddaughter Blaise.
