Georgia May Figgins (McCoubrey), born on August 31, 1942, in Seattle, WA, passed away at the age of 82 on October 18, 2024, in Bainbridge Island, WA. She fought a long and arduous battle against cancer. Georgia will be remembered for her loving spirit, energetic personality, and kind heart. She was deeply loved by many.
Georgia was a long-standing islander who participated in local theater, pickleball, tennis, quilting, and church groups. She held a few different positions in her career but is best known for her 22 years as the office manager of Bainbridge High School. During her time at BHS, Georgia built lifelong friendships with other staff and touched the lives of nearly everyone she met.
In her leisure time, Georgia was passionate about gardening, sewing, quilting, pickleball, tennis, and cooking. These hobbies brought great joy to her life and allowed her to connect with friends and family in meaningful ways.
Georgia is survived by a loving family: her husband Bernie Figgins; sons Doug Nelson and his wife Maria, Dave Nelson and his wife Kristin, Danny Figgins and his wife Marie; step-children Scott Figgins and his wife Angela, Debbie Bitner and her husband Steve; and her brother Bill McCoubrey. She also leaves behind sixteen beloved grandchildren and three great-granddaughters. Her warmth, spirit, and legacy will live on through them.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Georgia can be made to the Kathleen Sutton Fund, an organization that supports Kitsap County women who are battling breast cancer. The fund provides money for transportation costs to treatments. Her memory will continue to inspire all who knew her, and she will be deeply missed. (https://www.kathleensutton.org/)
