former Bainbridge Island resident/entrepreneur/father & friend passed on recently on Friday, March 31, 2017 at the age of 93 - following his wife DONNA LEE SMITH, who preceded him on August 21, 2016.He was born on November 4, 1923 to Irving D., Smith Sr. & Ruth Homan Smith in Seattle, Washington and was the grandson of King County Superior Court Judge E. Everett Smith, a member of one of Seattle's pioneer families.During the Great Depression, Irv lived on Wing Point with his sister Ellen & parents. Those memorable days as a young boy inspired him later, with wife Donna to return to Bainbridge in 1963, making the Island their permanent home & work place, graduating their 4 children - Cyndy, Larry, Sue & Libby from Bainbridge High School (BHS) - all of whom still share ties with the Island.Irv served in WWII as an Army Pilot over Britain, then married Donna Lee Luckenbach (1926-2016) shortly thereafter. They were married, inseparable for over 65 years.Remembered on Bainbridge for their devotion to family, education, PTA Sukiyaki Dinners, community, friends, tennis, and Island Lumber, together they also enjoyed a successful professional partnership: Irv developed the Ne-Si-Ka Bay Residential Waterfront Community, Poulsbo in the late 1970's, while Donna (a Realtor® with Deschamps Realty) listed & sold these same Ne-si-ka Bay homes - well into 1991, at the time of her retirement.During their later years, travel & golf took them south to Arizona until 2013, when they returned to the Pacific Northwest to rejoin the family one last time. Irv & Donna are survived by their 4 adult children, 7 adult grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.Their memories are cherished every day.
