James Daggett Springer

died on October 18, 2008 in his home in Poulsbo, WA. He was born on November 7, 1945 to Howard Douglas Springer and Muriel Daggett Springer in Seattle, Washington He leaves a son, Steve Springer and two grandchildren, Steel and Sierra of Whidbey Island, Washington. Surviving Jim besides his Father is his brother, Roy (Kathy) Springer who live in Hermiston, Oregon.Jim was preceded in death by his mother, Muriel Olson on November 19, 2004.Jim also has 3 half brothers - Jerry and Bill Springer of Poulsbo, and Don Springer of Bainbridge Island, and a half sister, Teresa Brown of Santa Rosa, California.His father, Howard and step-mom, Jean, will miss having him so close to their home in Poulsbo.When Jim lived with his parents in Michigan, he attended first grade, After the family moved to Bainbridge Island, Washington, he attended grade school and high school on Bainbridge.Jim was involved in many different occupations. When he was a teenager he would go fishing with his step-father, Albert Olson. In 1962, Jim traveled to Iquique, Chile, where his father was employed. At that time, since he wasn't finished with his schooling, he took correspondence courses through the University of Nebraska and worked for the shipbuilding company managed by his father. After returning to the U.S. he married Devenie Harris and thus became a father to Steve. They were divorced, and later he married Sandy Haley on November 24, 1991. They, also, were divorced. Jim's special friend, Diane, was there for him when he was diagnosed with terminal illness. Diane said "Jim was her best friend."Jim apprenticed at the Mercedes factory as an auto mechanic after returning from Chile. Later, he owned a garage in the Fremont, Seattle area, called, "GREASE PALACE", a shop for Volkswagen, Mercedes and Porsche autos. Later in Bellingham, Washington, Jim owned "ALLEY AUTO", specializing in the same brands of autos.. Jim was known to many of his friends as "Biggy". In fact, there was a cafe in Bellingham known as "Biggy's Lunchbox". At one time in his life, Jim worked on the Alaska pipe line and, for a ready-mix concrete supplier in Fairbanks, Alaska. He also worked for his friend Dick Gardner and Hidden Brick Co. in Vancouver, Washington. The business made building bricks. Jim's hobby was trains. He had various "HO" and "N" guage layouts.. He spent lots of time at the train shops and shows.When he returned to the Bainbridge Island area in the early 90's, he started a home remodeling service, "SPRINGER REMODELING AND REPAIR", which he continued until his death.The "Celebration" of Jim's life will be held on November 7th at the Eagle Hall in Poulsbo at 6:00 pm. It is located at 4230 Lincoln Rd. About 3 miles from highway 305. There is a blinking yellow light at the entrance to the hall.
