Jim, passed to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ on April 12, 2017.He was born in Salem, Oregon on November 14, 1931 to Ruth Sadd Schoettler and LeRoy James Schoettler. Following the death of his father in 1944, Jim and his mother and sister, Shirley, moved to Tacoma to live with family. He attended Stadium High School and later graduated from College of Puget Sound (now University of Puget Sound) in 1954.Jim married his high school sweetheart, Lois Jean Secreto on November 22, 1952 in Tacoma and together they raised three children: Stephen, John and Carolyn. Jim and Lois moved from their Lakewood home to Suquamish in 1986 where Jim opened and managed the Poulsbo Albertsons grocery store. He retired after 35 years from Albertsons in 1993. Jim was very active in his community. His philanthropic work included leadership roles spanning several decades with the Poulsbo Lions Club and First Lutheran Church. In 1992, Jim was named Poulsbo Chamber of Commerce's Person of the Year.Jim (affectionately known as Papa) was devoted to his children and grandchildren. He especially enjoyed attending their many sports activities and taking them fishing. In addition to Jim's dedication to his family, community, and church, Jim loved to travel, planning many trips with Lois, to Hawaii and Europe over the years. After 57 years of marriage, Lois passed away in 2010 and Jim continued to reside in their Suquamish home with his beloved Labrador, while diligently serving his community for the rest of his life.Jim leaves behind a loving family, his three children Stephen, John, Carolyn, their spouses and grandchildren Sarah Schoettler Overmyer, Erin Eley Maggard, David Schoettler, Julie Schoettler Carnahan, Zachary Eley and Michael Schoettler. A memorial service for Jim will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the First Lutheran Church, 18920 4th Avenue NE, Poulsbo, WA 98370. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to First Lutheran Church, Poulsbo Lions Club or North Kitsap Fishline. Arrangements entrusted to Cook Family Funeral Home.
