passed away on Wednesday, April 4, 2007 at The Messenger House on Bainbridge Island, Washington. He was 90 years of age and a resident of Bainbridge.Born March 3, 1917, in St. Louis, Mo., Mr. Dillon attended Catholic schools where he excelled in several sports. He also attended Washington University in St. Louis prior to World War II.His newspaper career began with part-time work at the St. Louis Post Dispatch where his father worked in the advertising department.Mr. Dillon served in the European theater during World War II. Attached to the U.S. Seventh Army, he served on the front lines during the Allied push through eastern France into Germany, where he was wounded. After the war Mr. Dillon rejoined his wife JoAnne on Bainbridge Island and went to work for the Seattle Times in the advertising department in 1947. His career at the Times spanned 34 years. He retired in 1982 as advertising manager.During the latter part of his career at the Times, and after, Mr. Dillon volunteered at Children's Hospital where he spent time with the hospital's young patients. After his retirement from the Times he also performed volunteer work with the University of Washington athletic department.Mr. Dillon's survivors include his wife JoAnne; children Patrick Dillon of San Francisco, Calif., Michael Dillon of Indianola and Nancy Dillon of Eugene, Ore. and four grandchildren.At Mr. Dillon's request there will be no funeral service.
