Jan Louise Pelland, beloved wife and mother, passed away peacefully at home on September 21st, after a courageous battle with Lymphoma.
Jan was born on July 11th, 1956 in Seattle, Washington to Ralph and Isabell Kallgren. She grew up on Bainbridge Island, and lived there her entire life. In 1978, while commuting to work in Seattle, she met and fell in love with Jamie Pelland, who worked for the Washington State Ferries. They married in 1981 and had two sons; Michael and Matthew.
Jan was hired on the Washington State Ferries in 1988. Over the years, she worked her way up to being an Able Bodied Seaman, Quartermaster on the Bainbridge-Seattle Ferry run. She drove the ferry for years, happy to reunite families together and take commuters to and from work. Besides her family, this was her proudest achievement. She also found some of her life long best friends at work.
Jan retired from the Washington State Ferries in November of 2019.
Jan is survived by her loving husband Jamie and sons Michael (Kristin) and Matthew (Shay) and grandchildren Landon, Rylan, Easton, Colton, and Avie. As well as her older sister Joan (Dick). Jan is preceded in death by her parents Ralph and Isabell, and her older sister Jean.
A memorial will be arranged when it is safe to do so in the spring. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to The American Cancer Society, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
