Janice Elaine Schrader

March 2, 1954 — April 26, 2024

Poulsbo

Janice Schrader was born in Lofall in 1954 to Carl and Norma Byrd. She was their sixth child. She spent her youth enjoying equestrian sports, spelunking, and practicing skeet shooting. In her early 20's, preparing for the 1980 winter Olympics in competitive alpine skiing, she was in a terrible accident that crippled her for life. Unable to practice any of her beloved pastimes, she decided to get married and have kids. Actually I made that all up, AS SHE WOULD HAVE WANTED. She had a great sense of humor.

She married George Schrader in 1978 and the couple settled down in Poulsbo, eventually producing Scott, Karla (now Briggs), Christian and Michael. She raised them. They eventually turned out ok, but there's still time... the jury is out. Janice was active in activities at St. Olaf's parish for her entire life, and her faith was central to who she was. She is survived by her siblings Ethel Otto, Christine Byrd and Theresa Moon, as well as the aforementioned kids and a passel of grandkids. Her funeral mass will be held at 1pm at St. Olaf's on Friday May 10th, to be followed by a reception with snackies. The burial will be following at 3:30pm.
